ENVIRONMENT

VALLEY LIENDO
The charm of the rural place, The town of Liendo belongs to the region of the Eastern coast of Cantabria. It lies on the enclosed valley between Laredo and Guriezo and it is organized in quarters, of which Hazas is the main one. The coastline is quite rough, with cliffs, but there are also two small beaches: San Julián and Sonabia (the latter can be accessed from Oriñón in Castro Urdiales).
Buildings full of history stand on these green sceneries like the renaissance Our Lady of Asunción’s Church, in Hazas, the baroque country house of Iseca Vieja Palace, in the quarter bearing the same name, and the ruins of San Julián’s hermitage, near San Julián beach.
Due to its location, other nearby important places can be visited such as Bilbao, Altamira caves or the tourist towns of Laredo, Castro Urdiales, Santoña and Noja.
CULTURE THE HISTORICAL HERITAGE THAT TOUCHES THE WOODS
Sightseeing in the Valle de Liendo In spite of the fact that the main attraction of Liendo is its natural landscape, we also find in it some examples of the religious architecture typical of the region, such as Our Lady of Asunción’s Church, in Hazas, of renaissance style although built in the XVII century, the same as its altarpiece in its main altar. Besides some hermitages (San Julián-Iseca Vieja, Virgen Gracia-Villanueva, San Andrés-Villaviad…), there are still prehistoric remains in the Cueva de los Tomillos.

EAT WELL IN CANTABRIA
The products of the land (and sea) In the cuisine of the area plays a major role fish and seafood from the Cantabrian Sea, of recognized quality. Barnacles, spider crabs, crabs, clams, lobster, crawfish and shrimp, squid as well as sea bass, scorpion fish, anchovies and grilled sardines delight diners in the region. The maritime influence also extends to some traditional dishes such as hake in green sauce, the onions maganos or clams to the pan.
Among the meats, highlights the tudanca cow, although hunting brings other succulents alternatives: deer, roe deer, wild boar ... As for the pastry, you have to name the typical quesadas pasiegas and puff pastry. With all these references can be well formed an opinion of the products and preparations that ensure good food in this mountain region.
